Time Puts Everyone In Their Place
We have heard hundreds of times that “time puts everyone in their place . ” We will have even wished for that to happen, for life to give what it deserves to those people who do harm or to reward us for doing things well.
However, we cannot say that this is true or false, since the designs of destiny are beyond our understanding. What happens, in truth, is that this saying is misunderstood.
We are neither vigilantes nor can we expect anything to happen by divine inspiration to others. It is about life offering us the possibility of reflecting and taking a step forward. In other words, the reality is not that we are going to pay the consequence of our actions, it is that we cannot prevent what we do from marking our life trajectory.
If there was an eye for an eye, the world would go blind
Life takes perspective and acts, even if it is not always as we want or expect. At this point we already know that time is not in a hurry, because it is a wise judge who does not sentence immediately.
When we do not like something, we find it unpleasant or unfair, we always resort to the idea of destiny as a vigilante. However, this is just one more way to close our eyes so as not to contemplate what we cannot control.
This makes us feel that everything is fine and that our happiness (or the reflection of it) is not in danger. Let’s say that believing in a just world is a form of self-deception that leads us to get rid of what we do not want to look at.
We like it and we need to believe in it to live with peace of mind. Our mind makes us feel the need that we can control everything, but the truth is that we can only handle a certain part of our experiences.
In any case, we cannot expect the good to come to us if we contemplate life without acting. The really effective thing is to sweat the shirt to be able to have a chance to win a competition, but nothing guarantees it, not even luck.
What did I do to deserve this?
Ok, many times what happens to us is not fair, but the idea of equity is only in our mind. However, this is not bad in its fair measure because it helps us to protect ourselves, not to close ourselves out of fear and to order our world.
In other words, it would be very difficult to live without fear thinking that we may be the next to suffer a misfortune and have to deal with certain difficulties. In any case, it is important that we try to confront and work against injustices instead of approaching positions with the passivity that characterizes us (see our immobility in the face of the Syrian conflict!).
In other words, we have to avoid falling into the trap of victimhood and complaining and sow seeds that allow us to balance our forces in the same way that an athlete trains every day to have options to win the competition.
Being a good person does not guarantee that wonderful things will happen to us, just as being a bad person will not fill someone’s life with misfortunes. But all this does not matter, because what we must worry about is what we can do every day for our lives and that of others.
